Theresa + Windy

I am 15 years of age. I started riding when I was six and had always wanted my own horse. I am an English rider, but will sometimes play around in Western as well. I absolutely love dressage and jumping as they are what I do most.

When I first met Windy she didn’t trust people. She had a bunch of behavioral issues that no one could seem to fix, and wasn’t very rideable. From what I could gather, she had arrived at a rescue when she was around two to three years of age, and had been in and out of the rescue quite a bit. I started working with her in October of 2014 and decided to adopt her August of 2015. It has been a really long and hard road, but I’m very happy with where I have gotten her in our time together. I was told so many times that she would never be a good riding horse and would only amount to a “pasture pet.” I was also told a few times that she was, “a practically untrainable horse.” In the time that I’ve owned her, we have done dressage, jumping, liberty, some tricks both on the ground and in the saddle, four-hour trail rides, and we are planning to show sometime this fall. Before I got her, I looked at mutable, very well trained, purebred horses. Today, I honestly wouldn’t trade Windy for any of them.

This is what “right horse” means to me.

A horse that you connect well with, both riding and personality wise.

For my 16th birthday, when most girls get a car, I was blessed to get a horse named Cooper and call him mine! I was the happiest girl ever. We had such a bond and a love from the minute we laid eyes on each other. I will never forget the day that we rescued each other!

As the months went by he would reach out and lightly touch me with his nose, just to be close to me. I think that was a big step for him. He tried so hard to do what I asked. He really loved me, I think, before I loved him.
